Q それぞれが凄く個性的な役どころですが、どんな感じで演じていきたいですか?　おひとりずつ教えてください。

ハチクロ」は漫画だったり映画だったりで、本当に一ファンとして見ていた時間が結構あったので…。だから凄く客観的に「山田あゆみ」という人物をとらえられる部分もあるし、逆に先を知ってるから、あゆに寄り添うためには「もうちょっとどうにかしないとな」っていうのもいま何となく感じていて。でも、こういう雰囲気の中で、青春というか、そういうものを体現できたらいいなとも思っています。手探りな部分もありますけど、役については、凄く楽しみにしているし、一緒にこの「ハチクロ」っていう船に乗り込ませてもらった一員として、山田あゆみとして、何ができるかな、っていうことは考えています。
Honey and Clover was a manga and a movie and being a fan, when I watched them I thought they were great. So there are times when I could look and try to capture the character of Yamada Ayumi objectively. Conversely knowing the character beforehand, to get as close as possible to being Ayumi, I’ll go 「Is there a way I could improve playing her ?」Even now, I still think of that. But in an atmosphere like that, of the days of one’s youth, if I could somehow embody that kind of feeling, it’ll be great. There are moments when I fumble but I look forward to continuing playing the part. Let’s get on the boat of Hachikuro and journey together. As a member and Yamada Ayumi, what can I accomplish ? This is what I’m thinking about.

森田先輩は、普段はおちゃらけているんですけど、その中で全体のことをちゃんと見ていて…。非常に繊細な人だからこそ、ああいうふうにワイワイやってる方が楽なんだろうな、と思います。みんなを盛り上げるムードメーカーであろうとしているんですけど、明るさの中にあるせつない部分とか悲しい部分とか、そういう部分を見つけたいなって思いながらいまは演じています。作品の中で、男3人は…真山と一緒に竹本をいじめ、完璧にドSな（笑）、ドSとドMな関係で進んでいき…。森田は、基本的にSですよね。で、あゆみとは、「この2人付き合っちゃえばいいんじゃないかな？」って思うくらい分かり合ってるのに、全然くっつかないし、2話ではぐちゃんにもうキスしちゃうしね（笑）。大変ですよね。でも、はぐちゃんとは感性の部分で凄く、同じ次元でパチンと合う何かがあって、そこにすごく惹かれたりとか。ある意味、動物的で感受性の強い人だな、という風に思っています。
Morita Shinobu is always goofy but actually beneath all that, he could read situations clearly… I think that it is precisely because he’s such a sensitive person, he creates all that racket to put people at ease. He’s a mood-maker for everyone but beneath all that cheerfulness, there is pain, there is sadness. I begin to discover more of that part of him as I play his character. There are 3 guys… together with Mayama, the two of us keep bullying Takemoto, totally an S (*laugh*) The S and M relationship is going to improve…But Morita is basically an S. Regarding Ayumi 「Why don’t those 2 just go out with each other already ? 」since they understand each other but that was totally not adhered to. By the second episode, he already kissed Hagu-chan (*laugh*) Terrible ne. But with Hagu-chan, his sensitive side comes out because they have the same perspective, somehow they click and attract each other. I think that what it means is that he has a a strong sensitivity, somewhat like an animal.

竹本は…それこそ男3人でいるときは振り回され、そのうち山田あゆみにもケリを食らい（笑）。
About Takemoto… because of the 3 guys being there, he gets swung around and will just eventually end up being kicked by Yamada Ayumi (*laugh*)

もう30回行ったね。1回目はスニーカーだったからよかったけど、今日はブーツだった。ブッチャーのような、とんがりブーツで（笑）

凄く痛かったと思う。ごめんなさい…。

いやいや、全然やってください、っていう感じだけど。それはおいておき、わりと振り回されてナンボだし、いじめられてナンボなキャラなんですけど、視聴者の目線に一番近いのは竹本だったりもするので、物語を引っ張っていかなければならない人物として、あまりブレすぎないように、振り回されつつもそこはキッチリと手綱を握っていきたいなと思います。
No, no, do it properly please. No matter how much he’s swung around, no matter how he’s bullied, I want the audience to see a Takemoto that is as accurate as possible, as he’s a character that enables the story to be drawn out. To bring his character out, I think him being swung around like that fits him to the T.

はぐみは…私も元々原作が凄く好きなので、もちろん漫画の中のはぐみも知ってるんですけど、今回ドラマで私がやる役は、原作ともまた少し違うキャラになると思うんです。だから、自分なりのはぐみができたらいいな、っていうのはあって。最初は、やっぱり漫画の中のはぐみを見ているから、「表情とか作った方がいいのかしら？」とか思ってたんですけど、もう「こうしよう、ああしよう」っていう言葉があまりいらない感じなのかな？その場の空気感で、そこにはぐみとして立っていられるような、そんな現場なので、ドラマの「ハチクロ」を作っていけたらいいなと思います。
As for Hagumi.. For me too, right from the beginning, I really loved the original work, so naturally I know of the Hagumi in the manga but I think the character in the drama will of course be a little different. Therefore, I hope that I can show Hagumi in my own special way. At first, when I saw the Hagumi in the manga, I thought 「The facial expressions, should I make them ?」 but then 「Do it like this, do it like that」I didn’t want the feeling of doing it too much like that. When I was on location, with the atmosphere there, with Hagumi standing there, at the actual location, I think I was able to create the Hagumi of the Hachikuro drama.

真山は一見クールだったりするんですけど、でも一番子どもなんじゃないかなと思う部分もあって…。友達関係に関しては…森田先輩と一緒に竹本をいじめたりとか、そういう気心知れた仲間としゃべったり遊んだりしているときは全然子どものように笑ったり遊んだりしてるけど、恋愛になると猪突猛進というか、人間が誰でも持っている二面性――裏表っていったら変ですけど、人に対する態度ってそれぞれみんな違うと思うんですけど、みんなと一緒にいるときのグルーブ感だったり、真山が好きな理花さんに対する態度、感情からくる行動というのはわかりやすいので、見ててもあまり不自然ではないと思うんですけど、そこのギャップをどう付けるか、っていう工夫っていったら変ですけど、自分なりに考えることはいろいろあって。だから、いまの段階ではみんなと遊んでいるシーンが多いですけど、理花さんを絡めたときに、全然違う、けど真山個人としては当然出てくる行動に、違和感が無いようにしなきゃいけないと思うんです。あまり考えすぎてもいけないので、感情のままに演じていればいいのかな、というのはあります。ただ、クールに見えてクールじゃないっていうのは子どもっぽさからくるのかなと思うので、いい意味での少年っぽさとか、そういうところを忘れないように。（みんなに）聞いてますか？（笑）。
Mayama at a glance looks cool and collected but I think he also has a very child-like side. When it comes to his relationship with his friends… doing things like teasing Takemoto with Morita-sempai, his disposition comes to light. While chatting or fooling around with his friends, he laughs and plays just like a child but when it comes to love, he’s a little reckless. Everyone in the world has 2 sides to them, having that might be a little strange but everyone has a different way of confronting themselves, or when in a group feeling. Mayama’s method in confronting his feelings for Rika-san whom he likes, it’s easy for me to understand. I look at it and think it’s not unnatural so how do I close that gap ? That kind of method may be a little strange but I hope to create Mayama in my own special way. Now, there are many scenes where he’s playing around with everyone but slowly there’ll be parts where he’s with Rika-san and he’s completely different. But the personal Mayama will definitely come out. I think it won’t be right if his discomfort doesn’t show. It’ll also be wrong to over-think it. It’ll be good if I can continue to perform with this kind of feeling. To look cool, or actually be cool, or be child-like, we cannot forget such things because that’s meaning of being full of youthfulness. (To everyone) Heard that ? (*laugh*)

いや、ゴメン（笑）。
No, sorry. (*laugh*)

まあ、みんなそうだと思うんですけどね。ちょっと人に対して、どうやって違う態度をつけていくのかな、っていう…。僕もやってて楽しいですし、実際にみなさんがドラマを見てて、純粋な部分があるからそこにグッと惹かれる作品なのかなと思うので、その辺は丁寧に描いていければいいなと思います。
Well anyway, everyone thinks that way ne. In regards to this person, how do I add a different manner to him, like that… For me too, it’s fun. Practically in every part of the drama that you watch, there are genuine parts, I think this is a production that has more to captivate you with. It’d be great if we could show you that.

Gomen nasai. A lot of stuff, especially for Mayama, I can’t get at all. Sappari wakaranai. What I got is, Morita is an S, Takemoto is an M but Toma is also actually an M who loves being kicked and swung around.

Q First of all, tell us your thoughts on the making of the poster.

凄く可愛かったです、リスとか（笑）。まあ、リスはビックリしましたけど、でも5人の良さというか、普段もワイワイあんな感じでやっているので、そんな仲の良さが出て、いい感じだったと思います。さわやかで…ねっ！

It was really cute, with squirrels (*laugh*) Well, we were taken aback by the squirrels but we recovered and were back to our usual din-making. That kind of feeling, it brings us closer together. It felt good. It was refreshing, ne ?

ねっ!　みんな…竹本くんとか全員キャラがそのまんまだな、と思いました。とってもかわいいポスターだと思います。ねっ

Ne ! Everyone… Takemoto-kun and everyone’s characters were the same, that’s what I thought. Really cute poster I think. Ne !

ねっ(笑)。クローバーのデザインの上で盛り上がっちゃいましたね（笑）。撮影が始まってまだ間もないのに、わりとコミュニケーションが取れているので、それがいい感じに出ているのではないかなと…思うよねっ？

ねっ!この作品が、単体ではなくて、5人で作られている ストーリーというか、5人でひとつ、っていうか、それを象徴するポスター写真だなと思いました。斗真も言ってましたけど、大きなクローバーの中で、仲良 く、肩とか組んじゃったりして。でも、これは撮影中にみんなで仲良く、ケアしあいながら作ってきたものだと思うので、それがこうやっていい形でポスターに なって嬉しいな、と思いましたよ…ね？（笑）。

Ne ! This work is multi-layered. Whether it’s a story involving 5 persons, or their individual ones, I think the photo in the poster is a symbol. Toma also said it, the big thing in Clover is, making friends, doing something together as a team. But if during the making of this work, everyone gets along and care for each other just like in the poster, it’ll make me happy, that’s what I think… ne ? (*laugh*)

でも、ホントにセットが凄く可愛くて、クローバーがあってお花がいっぱいあって、リスもいて（笑）。撮影は始まったばかりなんですけど、最初からみんなに仲良くしてもらって、そういうことも画面に出てくると思うので、すごく楽しみにしています。ね（笑）？

撮影が始まったばっかりのころからこんな感じですよ。でも、そうとは思えない部分がいいですね。

From the time that filming has just about begun, it was already this kind of feeling. But, it’s good that we don’t have to think about these kind of things ne ?

なんだろうね。でも、最初に神社で会ったときは、全然しゃべらなかったよね。

お祓いやったんですよ。で、璃子ちゃんが最初にひとりで やって、俺は「二拝一礼」をみんなで合わせようとおもって、「はぁ…」って息を吸ったら、先にパンパンって（笑）。「せーの！」的なことをやったんだけ ど、先にやられちゃって（笑）。そこから、ガッタガタだったよね。もう、「大丈夫かな、みんな？」みたいな。

We were doing the purification before filming. From the beginning, Riko-chan was doing things by herself. I [doing the second bow] I was doing it in sync with everyone, [Haa...] I breathed in, then banban ! Clapping way before the others! (*laugh*) [Se-no !] (Ready, set!) We did that but she did it earlier than everyone (*laugh*) After that, gatagata (the rattling of the shrine bell) started [Is everyone going to be alright like this ?] I was thinking like that.

幸先悪い感じで（笑）。

ひとりだけ、もう一回違うタイミングで叩いてたよね。

Q You look like you’re getting along well now, looking back, how did it get there?

リハのときかな?

Maybe, during rehearsing ?

本読みがおもしろかったと思う。

The scene reading was interesting.

そうだね。それで、息が合わせやすくなったというか、読んでて楽しかったので。それで、仲良くなれそうなだっていう感じはありました。

That’s right. After that, our rhythm sort of fell together and the reading became enjoyable. And then, we started to get along well with each other.

湾 岸スタジオの食堂で、5人で飯を食ったっていう…そこが多分スタートだと思う。最初、男3人でご飯食べてたら、夏希ちゃんが通り、「混ざろう、混ざろ う」って言って４人で食べてたら、次に璃子ちゃんが通り、「来い、来い！」って言って。で、5人で飯食って、そこからいい感じの…。

At the studio’s cafeteria, the 5 of us eat our meals together… I think that’s where it started. At first, the 3 guys were eating together, then next to join us was Natsuki-chan [Join us, join us] we called to her so the 4 of us were eating together. After that, it was Riko-chan. [Come, come !] we said and so the 5 of us ate together. From then, we got along well…

そう。だから、リハやってよかったよね。

Yeah. Because of that, rehearsing went well ne.

よかったよね。撮影の空き時間とかに、気づくと5人で固まってるみたいな状況が自然とあったりして、なんかみんなでゲラゲラ笑いあっているときに、ふと俯瞰で見てしまっている自分がいて。「あ、なんかこの感じは、まさしくハチクロなのでは？」みたいな。

It went well ne. During times like between filming, I noticed that our relationship solidified, it came naturally. Somehow, when everyone is just guffawing and laughing together, I unexpectedly see it and tell myself [Ah, this feeling, surely it's just like Hachikuro, isn't it ?] It feels like that.

俺もそう思った。

I think so too.

思うよね。初日、凄く天気がよかったんだよね。で、みんなで日なたにイスをガッと並べて、なんとなく5人で集まってしゃべってたりして…。

It feels that way ne. It’s great that the weather on the first day was good. Everyone quickly set up some chairs, and in the sun, we sat together and chatted…

Even during filming intervals, they’re always together, just like the relationship they have in Hachikuro. Narumi Riko-san, Ikuta Toma-san, Harada Natsuki-san, Mukai Osamu-san and Narimiya Hiroki-san, the 5 of them create a good atmosphere among themselves to maximize the charm of Hachikuro. We put them in a room and they talk about their impressions of each other, about their roles and the inside story during filming.

なので、寒さ対策はとても重要なのは言うまでもありません。
が、第１話は春、２話も春（しかも海シーンあり）、
第３話は夏…という設定なので、
季節に合わせた衣装を身につけなければならない
演者のみなさまはそれはそれは大変なのです。

『Honey and Clover』 crank-in was in December.
We still haven’t really found a way to counter the cold weather.

みなさんもご存知の通り、生田斗真さんが演じている竹本役、
映画版では、斗真さんと同じ事務所の仲間でもある
嵐の櫻井翔さんが演じていました。
そのことについて斗真さんがどう思っているのかうかがってみたら、

「映画は見ましたが、特に意識はしていません。
漫画、映画、アニメとすべて違うものだと思っていますので。
かといって、自分のオリジナルの竹本を、とは思っていませんが、
原作に沿って演じれば自然と役に入り込めるんじゃないかなって思っています」

とのことでした。でも、

「嵐のコンサートを見に行って電話をしたら留守電だったので、
メッセージを入れたのですが、
コールバックがまだなくてさびしいです（笑）」

The man called Takemoto
Everyone, good day.

As you all know, Ikuta Toma-san is playing the role of Takemoto. In the movie version, the role is played by Arashi’s Sakurai Sho-san, who is from the same company.

Concerning that, let’s see what Toma-san has to say,

「 I watched the movie, but I wasn’t paying any particular attention.
I think the manga, movie, anime, they’re all different from each other.
Having said that, I didn’t really think about my own original Takemoto but,
to perform in line with the original work, I wondered how to go about getting into the role naturally 」

That’s the case. But,

「 I went to watch Arashi’s concert and when I call, I get the answering machine,
I leave a message but,
there’s still no call-back. It’s sad (*laugh*)」

Q 生田さんも、短パン姿がステキでしたよ。
A メイク部屋に入っていたら、笑われたんですよ。「短パンが…」って（笑）。

Q ご自身の短パン姿はいかがでしたか？
A どうですかね（笑）。まあ、冬なのでやっぱり寒いですよ。最近、レッグウォーマーを手に入れまして。それを愛用してます（笑）。ただ、寒い分、空気が凄くキレイだから、絵ももの凄くキレイに撮れるんですよ。だから、寒い中で頑張ったかいはあるな、って思っています。

Q 役作りの面で苦労されたことは？
A 僕は、割と現場で作っていくタイプなんですよね。今回は、珍しくリハをやっていて、撮影日とは別にリハ日を設けて、できるところはリハをやってから本番に臨む、というスタイルをとっているんですけど、その中で、みんなで芝居しあいながらやっていければいいかな、って思っていたんです。あとは…谷村監督がこだわりを持っている方で、細かいところまで指示してくださるので、8割くらいは監督の意向に忠実にやりながら、残りの2割で「ちょっとやってみようかな…」みたいな感じですね。

Q 得意の？独白シーンも多いですが…。
A そうですね（笑）。まあ、思いつきでやってみて、「ダメ！」って言われたすぐ止めよう、って思ってますけど…。でも、『花君』（『花ざかりの君たちへ～イケメン♂パラダイス～』）とは違いますからね。「また同じことやってるよ！」って思われるのもムカつくので（笑）。新しい何かを出していこうとは思っています。

Q 竹本くんが恋してしまうはぐみ役を演じている成海璃子ちゃんの印象は？
A 見た目が大人っぽいから、「どっちなのかな？」って。大人なのか、ちゃんと15歳をエンジョイしてるのか…。やっぱ、凄く仕事に対して真面目だし、プロ意識が高いな、と思う反面、話してみると、ちゃんと15歳してるところもあり…。璃子ちゃんって、思い出し笑いを凄くするんですよ（笑）。急にひとりで笑い出して、「どうしたの？」って聞くと、「いや、3日前に…」みたいな（笑）。「いつの話だよ！」みたいなことがありましたね。

Q 璃子ちゃんとは撮影の合間、どんな話をしているんですか？
A 最初は食べ物の話から入って…。好きな食べ物とか嫌いな食べ物の話とか。あと、ゲテモノの話（笑）。璃子ちゃんが本を読んでいて、「何の本を読んでいるのかな？」って思って見たら、ゲテモノの本で（笑）。「今日、私、ゲテモノの本を持ってきたんで、後で一緒に見ましょう」って言われました（笑）。「そういうのも読むんだ？幅広いね」って感心しました（笑）。

Q 生田さん、璃子ちゃんのおふたりに、原田夏希さん、向井理さん、成宮寛貴さんを加えた５人は、本当に仲がいいですよね。
A ロケの合間とかも、気づいたら5人が固まっている、みたいな感じですね。「まさにいまこの感じ、“ハチクロ”じゃん！」みたいな雰囲気に、スッと入れましたね。

Q 璃子ちゃんは、原作のキャラクターでは森田さんが好きだそうですね。
A 本人にも言ったんですけど、前にテレビのインタビューを見てたら、「『ハチミツとクローバー』が凄く好きで、いつも読んでるんです。森田くんとか、真山くんとか凄くいいですよね」って言ってたんですけけど、「竹本」なんて「た」の字も出てこなかった（笑）。

Q 今回は、またまた片思いする役ですが…。
A 寂しいですね（笑）。竹本の恋愛は、そこを超えちゃってる感じもありますからね。一応「好きだ」という気持ちは伝えるけど、受け入れてもらえなくても言ったことを後悔していないし…みたいな。男も女も、恋愛によって変ることって凄くあると思うんですよね。だから、そこはリアルに表現できたらいいな、って思っています。

Q “片思い”と聞いて思い出すことは？
A 片思い…難しいですね。後で、そのときに聴いていた曲とか見ていた景色とかを思い出したりするものじゃないですかね？　あとは…冬場に片思いすることが結構多いかもしれないですね。

Q 改めて、『ハチミツとクローバー』の魅力とはどこにあると思いますか？
A 凄くキレイな漫画だと思います。どこにもない、『ハチクロ』だけの世界観があるし、たくさん出てくる詩的な部分も凄くステキだし、おバカな部分とせつない部分のバランスもいいし…。ドラマも、そういうバランスを大事にしながらいけたらいいですね。芝居中も、何かしら動いていることが多くて、止まってしゃべり合っている、というよりも、細かく作りこんでいるんですね。監督も、男3人でいるときは、アップよりも引きの絵を撮ったりすることが多くて…。そういうグループ感みたいなものは、ずっと大事にしていきたいですね。

Q. The start of filming, and it was straight into that encounter scene, ne ?
A. When I saw Narumi Riko-chan during that scene, [Ah, its Hagu-chan!] I thought. My heart started beating faster (*laugh*) The sakura really fit the scene perfectly … it was wonderful, ne.

Q. You too, Ikuta-san, you cut quite a figure in your short pants.
A. When I went into the make-up room, I laughed out loud. [They're short pants...] I thought (*laugh*)

Q. Personally, how did you think you look in the short pants ?
A. How is it, I wonder ne (*laugh*). As expected, because it’s winter it’s really cold. Recently, I bought some leg-warmers. Those are my favourite (*laugh*). Nevertheless, during cold weather, the atmosphere is really pretty and you can capture it beautifully on film. So I’ll do my best to work in the cold.

Q. What challenges do you face during filming ?
A. I’m the type who improvises on the fly. This time though, I didn’t do it as usual. I rehearse properly before the actual filming day so that I can take on the scene properly. That’s the style I have now but during filming as everyone is performing their part, I start to wonder if I’m doing it properly. After that, Director Tanimura who is meticulous, right down to the minute details, will give out some instructions. Maybe about 80 percent of the director’s vision is faithfully realized on film, the leftover 20 percent makes me have this feeling of [Wonder if I could have better conveyed his point of view].

Q. Is it your specialty ? There are many monologue scenes here also …
A. There are, aren’t there ? (*laugh*). Well, I wanted to take a chance with the idea, then [No good!] I felt like saying and to immediately put a stop to it, but …Hana Kimi (Hanazakari no kimitachi e ~ikemen ♂ paradise~) was different, ne. [Doing the same thing again!] People are going to get sick of it (*laugh*). I intend to show something new.

Q. Your impression of Narumi Riko, who plays Hagumi, the one Takemoto-kun falls in love with ?
A. She appeared adult-like so [Which one is it?] I thought. Adult-like or someone properly ‘enjoying’ being 15 years old … As expected, in regard to work she is serious and highly professional. On the other hand, when you speak to her, there’s also the real 15-year old there. Talking about Riko-chan, I remember something funny that makes me laugh even when I’m thinking about it now (*laugh*). Suddenly, all by herself, she burst into laughter. [What's the matter?] I asked. [No, 3 days ago...] She said something like that (*laugh*) [Huh ? How long ago was that!] That kind of thing happens, ne.

Q. What do you talk about with Riko-chan during filming breaks ?
A. At first, it was about food… The kind of food we like and don’t like. After that, we talked about getemono (strange food) (*laugh*) Riko-chan read a book on it [What kind of book does she read, I wonder ?] I thought and went to have a look. It’s a book on getemono (*laugh*). [Today I brought this getemono book here, so let's read it together from the beginning] she said (*laugh*) [She reads this kind of thing ? Reads widely, doesn't she ?] I was impressed (*laugh*)

Q. Ikuta-san, you and Riko-chan get along well with the rest Narimiya Hiroki-san, Mukai Osamu-san and Harada Natsuki-san, don’t you ?
A. During times like filming breaks, the 5 of us are noticeably getting closer, I can feel it. [Just like that, and we feel this way already, it's really Hachikuro isn't it ?] We bonded fast.

Q. Riko-chan seems to have a fondness for the character of Morita-san in the original work right ?
A. Yeah, she said it herself, before she watched it on television, she really loves Honey and Clover and always reads it. She said people like Morita-kun and Mayama-kun were great. Takemoto’s character wasn’t mentioned (*laugh*)

Q. Is it a a one-sided affair again this time…
A. It’s lonesome, isn’t it ? (*laugh*) Takemoto is going to experience that kind of feeling. For once, to able to tell someone [I like you] and not feel regret about it … I want to try it. Man or woman, to change because of love is a wonderful thing isn’t it. So, to represent it ‘real’ in that way would be good, wouldn’t it.

Q. When you hear “unrequited love”, what do you think of ?
A. Unrequited love… it’s difficult isn’t it. During that time, when you listen to some music or glimpse at certain scenery, the memories will come back. Perhaps, during the winter season there’s many cases of unrequited love.

Q. What do you think, is the charm in Honey and Clover ?
A. I think it’s a really beautiful manga. You can’t find it anywhere else. In Hachikuro’s world, a lot of of lovely poetic moments will appear, baka moments, painful moments, there’s good balance… Even in a drama that kind of balance is an important quality. In plays also, there are many things to move it along, the right moment to stop, to do a detailed production. The director, there are people to upload, to do filming, many things … That sort of group feeling, it’s important to go on doing it this way.
